Automatic Piano, Score
This project is composed of field recordings of piano practice heard in various locations, together with the surrounding environmental sounds captured at the same moment. These recordings are transcribed into musical scores and performed on a player piano.
While walking outside, one sometimes hears the sound of someone practicing the piano from inside a house. These sounds are not intended for an audience: the repeated playing of the same phrase, or a well-known piece that may be slightly beyond the player’s current ability.
Although separated from us by walls, and although we cannot see where the player is or who they are, these unintended sounds create a strong sense of presence.
The field recordings also capture the surrounding environment: cars passing by, the presence of living creatures, leaves rustling, people talking. Each recording preserves the specific atmosphere of that time and place, and is translated into a single score for player piano.
Each score corresponds to one location and date.

様々な土地でフィールドレコーディングしたピアノの練習音と、その時の周辺の環境音から楽譜を生成し、ピアノで演奏するプロジェクト。
外を歩いていると、どこかの家からピアノの練習音が聴こえてくることがある。
同じ箇所だけ繰り返したり、本人のレベルにはきっと見合っていないけど弾きたいのだろう名曲など、誰にも聴かせるつもりのない音は、壁で隔てられ、どこにいるのか、どんな人が弾いているか見ることはできなくても、その人の存在を強く感じる。
フィールドレコーディングをするとピアノの練習音だけでなく、その時の周辺環境の音も一緒に録音される。
車の通り過ぎる音、生き物の気配、葉っぱの擦れる音、人の話し声。
その時の風景が楽譜に起こされ、自動演奏ピアノによって演奏される。
各場所 / 日時で一つの楽譜とする。
Op.6は、ピアノの練習音ではなく盲腸で１ヶ月産婦人科病棟に入院していた時に毎日聴こえていた音を楽譜にした。
コロナの頃の入院で外科の病棟が空いておらず、たまたま6人部屋の産婦人科病棟に入ることになった。
そこでは毎朝、回診のときに妊婦が胎児の心音を、スピーカー付きの聴診器で聴く習慣があった。
薄桃色のカーテンで仕切られたベッドの上で、5人分の胎児の心臓の音を聴いて過ごした私は、カーテンの、さらに向こうにいる会ったこともない胎児の存在を強く感じながら過ごした。
